Carolann Bonnar McGrady (January 31st, 1940 - December 1st, 2011)
Our beloved Carolann gracefully left this world on December 1st, 2011. In her final days of life, she was as stunning as ever and as lively as her weakened body would allow. On the day of her passing, she had an angelic aura about her, a feeling of peace that flowed through her and into the hearts of her family gathered by her side. A spiritual woman, Carolann was never hesitant to thank the Lord for her many blessings, and just days before her passing, she solemnly confided that she had seen the angels who had come for her - a testimony which now gives many of us hope as she rests in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
Carolann was born of William James Bonnar and Audrey Mae Vaux on the 31st of January, 1940 in Pittsburg, PA. She was a beautiful brunette with sparkling blue eyes that were well suited to her valiant and loving spirit. She married in 1958 and spent the remaining fifty-three years of her life with her adoring husband Ron. Together they raised five children - Scott, Pamela, Cynthia, Elizabeth and Samuel. Carolann and Ron owned and operated Kwik Kopy Printing in Bellingham, Washington for seventeen years and then created Cedarwoods Canine School, which recently celebrated twenty years in business. Carolann spent several years working as the administrative assistant at the Lighthouse Mission and was an active participant with the Sergey foundation. She was a member of Flamingos & Friends and she walked for the Whatcom County Relay for Life, raising funds to find a cure for cancer. Her passions in life were endless, but she was notorious for spending countless hours in her beautiful, secret gardens. She also enjoyed listening to classical music, making (and wearing) costume jewelry, and spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.
In 2000, Carolann was diagnosed with breast cancer. With her family by her side, she fought bravely and lived an amazing ten years before the cancer returned. But then, in 2010, she discovered that her cancer had metastasized and had spread throughout her body. During that year, Carolann battled the cancer with an incredible supply of emotional, physical and spiritual strength. Though the last few months of Carolann's life were the most trying, she faced each day with a smile and a mission to make it better. An inspiration to us all, she held firmly to her faith and remained confident that she would soon be in her Heavenly paradise. Carolann Bonnar McGrady touched our hearts with her unwavering courage and boundless grace. Her presence in our lives is a gift that we will always remember.
Carolann is survived by her husband, Ronald McGrady; her father, William Bonnar; her siblings, William Bonnar Jr. and James Bonnar; her children Scott McGrady, Pamela Hall, Cynthia McGrady, Elizabeth Standow, and Samuel McGrady; her grandchildren, great grandchildren and large extended family. The funeral services will be held at Grace Baptist Church at 3920 James Street in Bellingham, Washington, on Saturday, December 10th, 2011 at 11:00 am with a reception immediately following.
